Remember When People Took Sick Days

Working adults used to take sick days. Wild, right? The new norm is to fire up your work laptop or sign into your company's Citrix and start working from home. You could take a sick day, sure. But are you really taking a sick day? Most places in 'murica have switched over from having both sick and vacation days to throwing them all into one bucket: PTO - paid time off. You wouldn't want to run out of precious time away from work, right? So now you're hacking and wheezing or barfing or whatever, just trying to do what you can on your work from home day, which you specifically asked for. Work from home is another nuanced piece of the 2020s puzzle. WFH, as the cool kids call it in the Teams chat, a blessing and a curse. It's like going from having a landline to only having a cellphone. People expect you to always be available.

Throw that laptop down on the bathroom counter while your food poisoning has you stuck on the john. Buckle up. We're working from home today.
