AI Slop is Digital Pollution

You've searched for images on Google, right? Have you lately? If you haven't, you might want to give it a spin again because it's all AI generated slop art. Want a character reference? You're getting AI slop. Looking for some cool backgrounds? AI slop. All of this generated content, complete with its weird, uncanny, non-human touches, is mixed in with human generated content. It's polluting the internet.

You go to forums and there are obvious AI generated replies. And I'm not talking bots - I mean lazy fuckers who don't want to write out a replies so they ask ChatGPT then copy and paste whatever it spits out. Writers for major publications have been using AI to finish their articles for a while. I guess there are tools to try to detect slop now, but that's not going to stop people from generating text and posting it online - not in the age of the machine generated novel.

Ironically, the people who train large language models prolly don't want to train their models on AI generated works. They need real human essence for their homunculi. Well, too bad. You polluted the web, the biggest open data source, with your garbage. The virtual lakes, natural springs and rivers of the internet are all gross now. One day there will be more LLM generated shit online than there will be human works.

So what can you do? IDK my BFF Jill. Maybe ask your AI addicted friend not to upload their weird erotic anime girls from Stable Diffusion. See if they can keep that garbage on their own hard drive. It might be a hard sell. Some of these prompt users, prooompters, feel a sense of creation. I get it. They came up with the words to prompt. They regenerated this image until it looked right, like a slop slot machine. This person spent hours hitting refresh and adjusting prompt text. Go ahead and point out every weird AI-ism about ā€theirā€ art. Tear it apart. The more people that feel bad about posting AI garbage online, the better.
